This is the last will and testament of me Simon Alderson of Keld in Swaledale in the County of York made this 22nd day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy seven. I hereby revoke all wills by me at any time heretofore made. I appoint my two sons Ralph Alderson of Thwaite and James Alderson of Keld to be my Executors and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses and testamentary expenses shall be paid as soon as may be after my decease. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary the wife of John Kilburn the sum of Fifty pounds fo her own use and benefit absolutely. I also give devise and bequeath my Copyhold Dwellinghouse Land and the appurtenances thereunto belonging situate at or near the territories of Keld in Swaledale aforesaid unto my two sons Ralph Alderson and James Alderson their heirs and assigns share and share alike subject to the following payments thereunto namely to the payment of my Funeral and Testamentary expenses and payment of my just debts. Also the sum of Fifty pounds unto their sister Mary Kilburn (named above) to be paid to her before the expiration of Twelve months after my death. Also Forty pounds each to their neices Mary Isabella Butson and Elizabeth Alice Butson to be paid to each of them when they attain the age of twenty one years. And also to the following annuity to their mother named above. If it should happen that my daughter Mary die before myself in that case the Fifty pounds to go to her children share and share alike And if either of my Grand daughters happen to die before they attain the age of twenty one years the legacy or legacies to lapse. I give and bequeath to my wife Elizabeth Alderson the sum of Fifteen pounds yearly to be paid to her by my two sons Ralph Alderson and James Alderson so long as she remain my widow. And I further direct that my wife Elizabeth Alderson shall have the use of my dwellinghouse and furniture likewise without paying any rent during her lifetime or so long as remains my widow. I further bequeath unto my son James Alderson all the stock crop implements dairy utensils and all other articles of whatever description and also my household furniture subject to the use of them by his mother during her lifetime or widowhood.

This is a Codicil to the last will and Testament of me Simon Alderson of Keld Swaledale in the County of York and which will bears date november twenty second One thousand eight hundred and seventy seven. Whereas by my said will I have bequeathed legacies to a larger amount than I now feel justified in allowing so to remain I now declare that my executors pay to each of my granddaughters Mary Isabella Butson and Elizabeth Alice Butson the sum of Thirty five pounds each instead of Forty pounds each to be paid as before directed. And also that my wife Elizabeth Alderson pay to my sons Ralph Alderson and James Alderson the sum of ten pounds from the amount of her first years annuity in consideration of Testamentary and other expenses they may have to pay. In all other respects I ratify and confirm my said will. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this ninth day of September One thousand eight hundred and seventy nine. Simon Alderson.
