Civil Marriages When Oliver Cromwell governed England during the 1600's, religious marriages were banned and civil marriages were introduced.  Most people objected to this and the attempt eventually failed.  Civil Marriages did not become possible again in England until 1837. This list includes some local marriages during that period.

The Diary of James Lonsdale Broderick
In 1876 and 1877, Broderick, one of the family from Spring End nr. Gunnerside, visited parts of Iowa, Wisconsin and Ohio. Here is a transcript of that part of his visit to Ohio. The file is in .pdf format
